Combating Dark Eye Circles with Botox Dermalift & Restylane Skinboosters by Dr. Ivan Tan at Nu.Reflections Medical Aesthetics

It is hard for me to juggle between work and studies. While the mind and soul try to brave this phase of my life, my skin is showing the signs of struggles, challenges and worries.

Leave a lasting impression, they say. First impression lasts forever. Ever more so with my dark eye rings, which I religiously conceal with concealer. But strip me bare of concealers, there is a pair of hereditary dark eye circles staring back at you. Well, I understand that dark eye circles are a common problem and, without enough rest and sleep I’ve slowly turned into the well recognised Panda Girl!

Constantly tugging on my eye area to remove the make-up everyday will take a toll on the delicate area. With frequent tugging, it leads to droopiness of the skin. The ulzzang droopy eye look is not for everyone and it is certainly not for me.

#BeautyWithResponsibility with Dr. Ivan Tan from Nu.Reflections Medical Aesthetics

I chanced upon Dr. Ivan Tan from Nu.Reflections Medical Aesthetics on Facebook and made an appointment immediately. I’ve heard of many horror stories of how asthetic treatments and injections turn out badly, so, to be honest, I was pretty scared. But his credibility of being a trainer at Allergan (the company that distributes Botox in Singapore) and the clinic’s tagline of “Beauty With Responsibility” kinda assured me.. I don’t know what treatments will fix my eye problems but I know that EYE DON’T LIKE WHAT EYE AM SEEING IN THE MIRROR NO MORE!

Dr. Ivan Tan is highly specialised in the fields of aesthetic dermatology and anti-ageing medicine. I read that he is one of the biggest users of Botox and Fillers in Singapore and is also an appointed trainer for them.

With so many scary botched job stories in the media, it is important that I trust the hands and the person who is going to treat me so a consultation is very important. It is important to get all my questions answered and all my doubts cleared before I decide to take the next step.

Well, it was #BeautyWithResponsibilty indeed.

Dr. Ivan Tan is a very nice guy and assuring doctor. What I really loved about him is that he's really honest with his opinions. In my moments of self-insecurities, his assurance put up at ease. I felt like I was talking to someone who understands me and not talking to a doctor who just simply wants to be engaged. I like that part about him a lot.

I have heard of a lot of cases where some doctors just give or push the (unnecessary) treatments to the patients just so the doctors could earn more money. Patients are not always in-the-know about some treatments and they dont know what's best for them, so it’s kinda like being openly conned.. like being part of a daylight robbery.

In my opinion, that is what a responsible doctor should do and how a great doctor should be.

I also loved the fact that it was really easy to find the clinic though it is pretty hidden. It's only 5 minutes walk away from Dhoby Ghaut MRT. And when the lift door opens at Level 5 of Regency House Office Tower, you'll see the clinic immediately.

Rectifying my Eye Problem with Dermalift & Skinbooster

Dr. Ivan Tan recommended Dermalift  to combat those sad droopy eyes, as well as Skinboosters for my dark undereye area.

The few seconds that will separate me from my panda eyes… Oh yes! I was really scared. Don’t judge! I’m really scared of needles, I’m not kidding. And sitting on that chair, watching Dr. Tan prepare for the procedure doesn’t help either.

Skinboosters uses Restylane, a hyaluronic acid based fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a soft, gel-like substance naturally found in our body. It absorbs water and brings deep skin hydration to the treated areas, giving it improved firmness, elasticity and smoothness.

The Dermalift treatment uses Botox. The diluted botulinum toxin is superficially injected (not deep into the muscles like a normal Botox injection) at the temple of my eye area to lift the eyes and cheeks area. This will in turn lift the overall facial skin and my skin supple, and my face lifted. Sad, tired eye no more! Although I felt like I could instantaneously see the results when he did on half of my face (for comparison sake), the effect of Dermalift will continue for the next one week. The Botox will also drift down gently into the muscles to relax them and reduces any fine lines appearance.

Dr. Ivan Tan did not inject anaesthetic to numb the area, as Restylane fillers already contains lidocaine, a numbing compound so when the Skinbooster was injected at my tear trough area, it was generally painless.

Dermalift, on the other hand,  was slightly uncomfortable but bearable, which is great for someone who is pretty scared of needles aka yours truly.

And I Lived Happily Ever After

The results were truly amazing. I have never expected such a drastic difference before and after. My dark eye circles brightened instantaneously and my face became a lot sharper and lifted.

Before the treatment, I was told that there will be quite a bit of bruising around my undereye area. But surprisingly, immediately after the treatment and even for the following week, there were no bruising at all, except for the tiny red dot left behind by the needle, which was barely noticeable.

I was pretty worried initially as I had to work the next morning, and really didn't want to go to work with a bruising face! Hahaha. Thank goodness for Dr. Ivan Tan.

[Sponsored] SANA Super Quick Melty Gel Eyeliner

I have been using Maybelline's Eyeliner since forever, and I've never really tried other brands of eyeliner since then. You can say that I'm pretty picky when it comes to choosing which eyeliner to use. I love liquid eyeliner because they're incredibly easy to apply, and to fix any imperfections as you can just swipe off using a Q-tip. The most important part is that it's smudge-proof after it dries. And that is the one reason why I've never really liked crayon or gel eyeliner. Sometimes it can smudge all over your under eye area, giving that undesirable panda look, especially when your face gets oily and sweaty thanks to the hot weather.

When I received the SANA Super Quick Melty Gel Eyeliner, I was really sceptical about the waterproof and smudge-proof properties that it claims to have.

It completely proved me wrong! The application is extremely easy! And it glides on my skin soooo smoothly. The shade I got is in Black Chocolate, and despite its jet black colour, the colour after application is not too intimidating or harsh, great for a natural everyday look. However, if you're going for something with more character, a more edgy look, the colour can definitely be build up after a few more swipes. This eyeliner is also available in Bitter Chocolate, which is basically brown.

You can create both thick and thin lines using this gel eyeliner, which is something that most crayon/gel eyeliners out there can't do. It fits in gaps between eyelashes, blending when with the eye area and leaving a black accentuated eye impression.
About 30 seconds after application, I did the smudge test, and it was amazing. Not even one bit smudged. Thereafter, I wet the area with water and tried rubbing it. Nope. The eyeliner stayed perfectly once again.

This little guy here contains several moisturising ingredients like macadamia nut oil, shea butter and panthenol.

The only downside is that this eyeliner is non retraceable. So, to prevent breakage, do not turn out more than 1mm of the lead.

Love, Chloe
